Bellmead is an incorporated city northeast of Waco in McLennan County, positioned along the I-35 corridor between Waco and West. Originally developed around the Missouri Pacific Railroad, it has grown into a working-class residential community with a commercial corridor along I-35 that includes retail, dining, and lodging.
Housing in Bellmead is among the most affordable in the Waco area, with a mix of older single-family homes, manufactured housing, and some newer construction. The city is served by La Vega ISD, a public district covering elementary through high school. Bellmead's commercial corridors along I-35 provide grocery, fast-casual dining, and big-box retail, reducing the need to travel into Waco for daily errands.
The city is home to the Heart O' Texas Speedway, a dirt track that hosts weekend races, and is within a short drive of Cameron Park and the Brazos River. Bellmead's position on I-35 gives residents direct highway access for commuting to Waco (about 5–10 minutes) or traveling north toward the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
For newcomers, Bellmead offers the most affordable entry point into the Waco area housing market, with immediate highway access and basic retail convenience. The trade-off is that some neighborhoods are older and more industrial-adjacent, so buyers should visit specific areas before deciding.
